What does Twine actually change?
Twine fuses the Pathfinder and the lead Aniimo into one controllable body. In Command Mode the player stays human, the Aniimo act on an assigned behavior, and the Q, E and T keys cast Pathfinder skills. In Twine Mode the player becomes the creature, and the same keys cast the creature's skills.
That is the whole trick, and it is the source of most beginner confusion: the key labels do not change, but the owner of the skill does. A player who thinks Q is "the fireball" will be surprised when it becomes a wind dash after twining.
Twine also carries traversal. Each Aniimo brings a Mobility skill, bound to T, which costs no EP and often replaces a jump, a glide or a climb requirement. Some map pockets are only reachable while twined, which is why the mechanic is not optional.
Aniimo left on their own follow one of three behaviors, toggled with J: Attack engages wild targets, Catch stops attacking once the target is low, and Defense keeps fighting until the target is defeated. Behavior only applies outside Twine Mode.
How do you untwine, and when should you?
Press the same key again. C on PC, RT/R2 on controller. Untwine is free, instant outside combat animations, and has no dedicated cancel bind. Sprint is Left Shift; it does not release Twine.
Three situations call for untwine:
- Capture. Throwing an Aniipod is a Pathfinder action, so the player must leave Twine Mode first.
- Team commands. Switching field Aniimo and changing behavior is easier from Command Mode, where the full team is visible.
- Giga-Egg carrier play. A player twined to the egg cannot use active skills at all, only dash, and dropping the egg on defeat is the risk that balance the mode.
What are the six stats, and what does each do?
Every Aniimo shows the same six values. Two of them, BREAK and REGEN, are frequently misread as combat roles rather than stats; they are both.
| Stat | What it governs | Common misreading |
|---|---|---|
| HP | Health pool. Some heals scale from the healer's maximum HP. | Not a measure of tankiness by itself; P.DEF and M.DEF decide damage taken. |
| ATK | Base damage scaling for most skills. | Does not open the guard bar. BREAK does that. |
| P.DEF | Physical damage reduction. | Does not reduce elemental damage; that is M.DEF and resistance. |
| M.DEF | Magical damage reduction. | Not a substitute for HP on a low-level unit. |
| BREAK | How hard the unit hits the guard bar. | Separate from the break value printed on a skill. |
| REGEN | Energy recovery rate. | Does not heal HP; Heal skills do that. |
Official The six-stat panel comes from the official survival handbook. The break value on a skill is a separate number that measures guard-bar damage, even though both are translated as "break" in some community pages.
What are the skill slots and the three resources?
An Aniimo has two active skill slots, one ultimate slot and a basic attack that sits outside the cooldown queue. The first active slot is usually the identity skill, the second is the swap slot, and the ultimate is the burst button.
| Resource | Spent by | Recovery | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| EP | Skills 1 and 2; most cost 10–30 | Regenerates over time, small refund on basic-attack hits | One shared pool for the whole team; Mobility costs 0. |
| UP | Ultimate, one segment per cast | Skill hits fill the gauge; three segments maximum | Community pages print "100" as one segment; the three-segment cap is official. |
| Primegy | Alpha capture attempts, activity claims, Sim chests | Real time, about 1 point per 6 minutes, cap 300 | Account-level stamina. Walking and normal fights do not drain it. |
| Stamina | Sprint, roll, climb sprint | Pauses when movement stops | Movement only. Not a skill cost and not EP. |
Community The Primegy cap, the 1-per-6-minute rate and the "100 equals one UP segment" conversion come from community references. The official text confirms the three-segment cap and that Primegy is not a combat skill cost, but it does not print those two numbers.
Chain ultimate is the exception to the slot rule. It is bound to Y, reuses the player's own UP segments, and only becomes available when at least three twined players are in a group. It does not trigger in Operation: Egg Heist.
How does the BREAK window work?
Enemies with armor carry a guard bar. Damage does not open that bar; BREAK output does. A BREAK unit fills the bar, the target staggers, and a short window opens in which the team's high-Might skills and ultimates land at full effect. When the window closes, the bar resets and the team rebuilds.
Three rules follow from that:
- BREAK is a role, not a side effect. Stacking ATK on three damage dealers clears trash and stalls on anything armored.
- The window belongs to the DPS. BREAK units should open the window and leave; the damage dealer swaps in for the burst, then swaps back.
- Some skills reward the window directly. Effects that add damage against a broken target exist, but the per-skill numbers are community readings and not a published table.
Unverified No source gives the window's duration in seconds or frames. Community guides describe it as short and advise front-loading the ultimate, but the exact timer is not in the corpus or the official help text.
What does a full combat loop look like?
The loop that community damage guides describe has five beats. It is a sequence, not a rotation, because the BREAK bar sets the pace.
- Open with the advantaged element. Check the target's element before committing the first skill; the multiplier is the cheapest damage in the game. The full chart is on the element page.
- Build EP and set the field. Basic attacks refund EP, and terrain skills create puddles, grass or marks that later skills consume.
- Fill the guard bar. Bring the BREAK unit in, spend its break skills, and stop trying to deal damage through armor.
- Burst inside the window. Swap to the DPS, cast the highest-Might skill and the ultimate, and use the chain ultimate if the group has three twined players.
- Reset. The window closes, the bar returns, and the team rebuilds EP for the next cycle instead of chasing damage into a guarded target.
Two support-layer habits make the loop smoother: place a team buff before the window rather than during it, and keep the Heal skill for the moment the DPS swaps in, because that is when the team is most committed and least mobile.
What did the 29 October patch change?
The patch reworked how non-DPS units contribute damage, then adjusted 19 species. The official note is a direction statement: BREAK units now use ATK and BREAK together within a band, Support units use ATK and level together, and the main DPS experience is largely unchanged. The coefficients below are the community-derived part.
| Element | Official direction | Community-derived detail |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Damage scales from ATK as before. | No change to the ATK formula. |
| BREAK | ATK and BREAK jointly affect damage in a band. | Equivalent ATK = ATK + 0.42 × (BREAK − 0.5 × ATK); BREAK counts up to 2.2 × ATK. |
| Support, REGEN, Heal | ATK and level jointly affect damage at low ATK. | Level correction = 7 × min(level, 60) + 0.3 × ATK; the crossover is about 600 ATK at level 60. |
Community-derived The 0.42 coefficient, the 2.2×ATK cap, the 0.5×ATK floor and the level-correction formula come from post-patch client analysis, not an official formula sheet. The ruling used here is that the direction is fact and the coefficients are labeled as derived.
The patch also restructured several skills rather than buffing them outright. Inferlupa's Blazing Wolf Assault went from 20 to 15 EP but from 1 second to 20 seconds cooldown; Sherro's Prismana Slam went from 20 to 15 EP with a 1-to-10-second cooldown; Ignitis Fire Dash gained damage but moved to a 10-second cooldown. Those changes reward timing over spam.
A free reset window runs from 29 October 04:00 to 13 November 04:00 in 2026 for Tuckin, Panpanta, Sherro, Hexxin, Inferlupa, and Ignitis across their listed forms. It returns level items, Resonance and Star Rank materials, Potential materials and Capafruit uses. Blazen and Waleetle are not on that list.
Potential is now worth re-checking on every BREAK unit. Until BREAK reaches roughly 1.88 times ATK, the same number of Potential points in ATK produces more damage; BREAK's remaining value is speed on the guard bar. The team-building page breaks that down by role.
For who currently benefits most from the new scaling, see the tier list; for the control layer behind all of this, see the controls page.
