Aniimo Team Building: Roles and Compositions

Team building in Aniimo starts with jobs, not favorites. A field team has three slots, and each slot should answer a different question: who opens the guard bar, who spends the window, and who keeps the run alive.

Updated 2 November 2026 S1 Part 2 9 min read Five official combat roles

At a glance

Combat roles
DPS, BREAK, Support, REGEN and Heal. Mobility and Homeland production are not combat roles.
Field team
Three slots: one DPS, one BREAK unit and one sustain unit in the standard shell.
Sustain slot
A Support, REGEN or Heal unit can hold it; the job is keeping the other two running.
BREAK
A separate build axis from ATK. A team with no breaker stalls on any target with a guard bar.
Potential
ATK first on DPS, HP first on Heal, REGEN first on REGEN. A BREAK unit needs enough BREAK to fill the bar, then ATK for damage.
Team modes
Only the lead Aniimo uses its full kit. Reserve slots enter, cast their Core Skill and switch back.

What are the five combat roles?

The in-game manual lists five combat roles: DPS, BREAK, Support, REGEN and Heal. That is the full list. Mobility skills and Homeland production jobs are separate abilities, which is why a fast climber or a good farm worker does not count as a combat role even though both are useful.

RoleWhat it doesTeam jobSpecies examples
DPSConverts ATK into damage and gains the most from a BREAK window.Main damage.Fulmintis, Irisalis, Thornblade, Stellarys, Scorchhowl
BREAKFills the guard bar and opens the burst window.Opens the fight.Inferlupa, Tubster, Panpanta, Geoclaw, Blazen
SupportTeam buffs, resistance cuts, control and utility.Multiplies the other two slots.Turbo, Luminelle, Melloblum, Fragrancier
REGENRestores energy and keeps the skill loop running.Prevents dead time between windows.Somniwing, Erlath, Hexxin
HealRestores HP, often scaling from the healer's maximum HP.Keeps the run alive.Gracewing, Glacy

Official The five-role list is printed in the in-game manual. The species column is a community reading of each kit, not an official class assignment; a species can be built against its usual job, but it rarely pays.

Heal and REGEN are different jobs. Heal restores HP; REGEN restores energy. A team that confuses the two ends up with a support that cannot save anyone, or a healer that cannot keep skills online. The stat and resource layer is explained on the Twine and BREAK page.

How should a three-slot field team look?

The field team holds three Aniimo. The standard shell fills all three with a DPS, a BREAK unit and a sustain unit, and the sustain slot accepts a Support, a REGEN unit or a Heal unit depending on what the fight punishes.

SlotPrimary jobWhat to look forWhat not to do
1. BreakerFill the guard bar.High BREAK, fast multi-hit break skills, enough HP to stay in.Do not make it the main damage source; it should open and leave.
2. CarrySpend the window.Highest ATK, one burst skill and one ultimate worth saving.Do not open the fight with it; it should arrive after the bar breaks.
3. SustainKeep the loop alive.Heal for HP pressure, REGEN for energy pressure, Support for damage checks.Do not split the slot across three jobs; pick the one the fight demands.

The order is a plan, not a lock. What matters is that the player is twined to the carry when the window opens, and that the sustain unit covers the swap rather than competing for field time.

three slots, three jobs, one burst window BREAK DPS SUSTAIN fills the guard bar opens the window spends the window highest ATK Support, REGEN or Heal keeps the team running A breaker that never converts is wasted; a DPS that never waits for the window is wasted damage. Sustain is whichever of the three sustain roles covers the gap the other slots leave.
The three-slot field team as three jobs. Slot order is flexible; role coverage is not.

Against a target with no guard bar, the BREAK slot has nothing to open. Swapping it for a second DPS or a Support is a valid niche adjustment, not the default; most bosses and armored elites do carry a bar.

Which support fits which element?

Support buffs are mostly bound to one element, so the useful question is not "who is the best support" but "which support matches the damage element the team already committed to". A mixed team is not wrong, but it should check coverage before investing.

Damage elementSupport to considerWhat it addsSource note
LightningLuminelleA beam that damages and heals; the spotlight adds 17% basic-attack damage and 10% BREAK efficiency, and the trait gives the supported ally 25% Lightning damage.Community readings of the kit
LightningDazmandGathers enemies and raises the team's Lightning crit rate; the first skill is free on entry.Community readings
GrassMelloblumA rose garden that gives 30 seconds of 70% bonus Grass crit damage; healing roses convert team crit into healing.Community readings
DarkFragrancierEach hit cuts 7% Dark resistance; the fragrant bomb adds 10% Dark damage for 30 seconds and stuns.Community readings
Wind or genericTurboRaises team damage and BREAK efficiency; the cloud shield absorbs 15% of maximum HP.Community readings
Wind or genericSomniwingHypnosis control; the target takes 25% more damage; the energy wave restores team energy.Community readings
WaterErlathBubble support that is strong in a Water team and useful for exploration; value drops outside Water.Community readings

Community The buff values above come from community kit readings. The pattern is consistent across guides, but no official page prints a support buff table. The element relationships themselves are on the element chart page.

Two support habits are worth keeping. First, place the buff before the DPS commits, because a buff cast after the burst arrives late. Second, check whether the buff is element-locked; if it is, a DPS of another element gets little from the slot.

Where should Potential go?

Potential, which the menu also calls Capability Awakening, is a per-Aniimo stat investment layer. The priority order follows the role rather than the species.

RoleFirstSecondAvoid
DPSATKDamage layers from skills and PersonalitySpreading points into HP before gold materials
BREAKEnough BREAK to fill the guard bar reliablyATK, the stronger damage stat in the derived bandTreating BREAK as a pure damage stat after the cap
HealHP, because heals often scale from maximum HPREGEN for skill uptimeATK on a pure healer
REGENREGENHP for survivalUpgrading damage skills first
SupportATK and REGEN as neededHP if the unit is fragileBuilding for raw damage

Official direction The 29 October 2026 patch states that DPS damage is unchanged, BREAK units now use ATK and BREAK together within a band, and Support, REGEN and Heal units use ATK and level together at low ATK.

Community-derived The coefficients are the derived part: BREAK equivalent ATK = ATK + 0.42 × (BREAK − 0.5 × ATK), with BREAK counted up to 2.2 × ATK and no bonus below 0.5 × ATK. For Support, REGEN and Heal, the level correction is 7 × min(level, 60) + 0.3 × ATK, with a crossover around 600 ATK at level 60.

Read together, the formula says two things. A BREAK unit should be built to break first and to damage second, and inside the community's 0.5-to-1.88 × ATK band, one point of ATK adds more damage than one point of BREAK. BREAK's separate value is guard-bar speed, which is the reason the slot exists.

The reset window announced with the patch runs from 29 October 04:00 to 13 November 04:00 in 2026 for Tuckin, Panpanta, Sherro, Hexxin, Inferlupa and Ignitis across their listed forms. It returns level items, Resonance and Star Rank materials, Potential materials and Capafruit uses.

What changes in team modes?

Team modes change which part of a kit each slot can use. In Team Combat Mode, only the lead Aniimo uses the full skill set. A reserve slot enters briefly, casts its Core Skill and switches back, so a reserve with no Core Skill contributes nothing.

ModeDeployment ruleBuild consequence
Open-world field teamThree slots, all three usable. The standard shell works; swap freely between fights.
Holo-Battle InterlinkOne lead plus three reserves; a reserve casts its Core Skill and switches back; reserves have no HP.Every reserve needs a useful Core Skill; defensive stats on a reserve do not matter.
Operation: Egg HeistFour Aniimo carried, only the lead uses the full kit, and each reserve brings one Core Skill; in-mode gear sets combat power rather than Aniimo level.Build the mode gear, not the levels; a reserve without a Core Skill is an empty slot.

Official The core-skill rule is official help text, and the help recommends against placing an individual with no Core Skill in a reserve slot. Community The no-HP reserve behavior in Holo-Battle Interlink and the Egg Heist gear rule come from community mode guides, not an official rules page.

This is why a collection box is not a team. Levels and Potential on a reserve are mostly irrelevant in these modes; the qualifying question is whether the unit has a Core Skill that the lead can use.

Which compositions work?

No official best team is published, and no post-patch measured ranking was out as of 1 November 2026. What exists is a small set of shapes, each answering a different fight.

  • Balanced shell. DPS, BREAK and Heal or Support. The default for first clears because it survives unknown damage patterns.
  • Element commit. One damage element plus its matching support: Lightning with Fulmintis and Luminelle or Dazmand, Grass with Irisalis or Thornblade and Melloblum, Dark with Stellarys and Fragrancier. Less flexible, but the buffs land on every damage skill.
  • Defensive BREAK. Tubster as the breaker, for fights with constant chip damage. Its field gives 35% team damage reduction for 7 seconds, and each break cuts team stamina cost by 30%. Lower damage than an offensive breaker, higher tolerance for mistakes.
  • Skill-loop team. A REGEN unit plus a DPS whose rotation is expensive. Somniwing fits any element, which makes it the usual pick when the carry runs out of EP before the window.

Composition is an answer to a fight, not a permanent identity. The tier list covers who is strong; this page covers which job a unit fills. For the control layer behind swapping and twining, see the controls page.

What mistakes break a team?

  1. Three damage dealers and no BREAK. The team clears trash and stalls on every armored target. Damage into a guard bar is not damage.
  2. Building the sustain slot as a second DPS. A safe-looking team that cannot recover is not safe; it is one mistake away from a wipe.
  3. Mixing support buffs across elements. If the buff is element-locked, the off-element DPS gets little from the slot and the Support becomes a wasted pick.
  4. Putting a no-Core-Skill unit in a team-mode reserve. In Team Combat Mode that slot enters, casts nothing and leaves.
  5. Treating REGEN as a healer. REGEN restores energy, not HP; a team without a Heal answer still loses to sustained damage.
The one-question test

Before investing in a unit, ask what the slot answers. If two slots answer the same question, one of them is wasted, and the fight will find the question nobody answered.

Team building FAQ

What are the five Aniimo combat roles?

DPS, BREAK, Support, REGEN and Heal. The in-game manual lists these five; mobility and Homeland production are exploration abilities, not combat roles.

How many Aniimo are in a field team?

Three. The field team has three slots, and the standard shell fills them with one DPS, one BREAK unit and one sustain unit.

Do I need a BREAK unit on every team?

For any target with a guard bar, yes. BREAK is a separate build axis from DPS, and damage without a breaker stalls against armored targets.

What is the core-skill rule in team modes?

Only the lead Aniimo uses its full kit. Reserve slots enter briefly, cast their Core Skill and switch back, so an individual with no Core Skill contributes nothing from reserve.

Where should Potential go first?

DPS units take ATK first, Heal units take HP first, and REGEN units take REGEN first. A BREAK unit needs enough BREAK to fill the guard bar, then ATK for damage inside the community-derived useful band.
